Hong Dodged CNN's Kaitlan Collins on Whether She Still Wants Thanksgiving Gone

Francesca Hong is the frontrunner to be Wisconsin's next Democrat nominee for governor.

She is also a card-carrying member of the Democratic Socialists of America.

Back in November 2020, Hong posted that America should "Cancel Thanksgiving. Should have done this in 1621."

She added that the holiday amounted to celebrating "the original superspreader event that killed indigenous folx and women."

She even spelled it "folx," because nothing says solidarity with working people like inventing new letters.

That post sat buried for six years until Hong surged to the top of a crowded Democrat primary field.

Then it resurfaced, and CNN's Kaitlan Collins asked Hong the simplest question in politics.

Did she still believe Thanksgiving should be canceled?

Hong would not say yes and would not say no.

Instead she told Collins "views can evolve" and pivoted to a story about cooking a Thanksgiving meal at 16.

She also claimed the holiday is "incredibly painful for many people in our communities."

Notice what she did not do.

She did not apologize.

She did not disavow the post.

She gave Wisconsin voters a word salad and hoped nobody would notice the dodge.

Two Days Later Hong Told Politico She Loves the Holiday She Once Trashed

Hong apparently decided the CNN answer was not good enough.

Two days after refusing to disavow her own words, she sat down with Politico and rewrote her position entirely.

Asked about the controversy, Hong joked that Thanksgiving is actually her favorite holiday.

That is one of the fastest ideological about-face most can recall from a campaign in recent memory.

Conservative commentator Dan O'Donnell summed up the reaction better than any Democrat operative could.

He said he is increasingly convinced Hong is secretly working to make socialism sound as unserious as possible.

He might be onto something.

Wisconsin's Democrat establishment has spent weeks pretending this candidate is a normal, electable option.

Gov. Tony Evers already endorsed Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley over Hong, a quiet admission that the party knows exactly what it has.

Crowley is barnstorming Superior, Wausau, Rhinelander, Ashland and Hudson trying to find Democrats who have not heard about the Thanksgiving posts.

Meanwhile Hong keeps expanding her lead in poll after poll, running away with a primary her own governor does not want her to win.

But now her handlers are reportedly telling her to zip it and stop doing national interviews after she apparently thought dissing Halloween would make up for throwing shade at Turkey Day.

This Is the Mamdani Playbook and Wisconsin Voters Have Seen It Before

Democrat socialists have run this exact play in bigger races.

Zohran Mamdani spent years to the left of the left before he needed New York City's votes.

He backed defunding the police in 2020, then softened that same position the moment he became the actual nominee for mayor.

He condemned a phrase he once tolerated only after moderates in his own city revolted.

Mamdani only found his manners once the votes he needed belonged to people who actually pay rent instead of just chanting about it.

The pattern is always the same.

Say the radical thing when nobody outside the socialist bubble is watching.

Reverse course the moment real voters, not just activists, hold the ballot.

Hong is running that identical playbook in Madison right now, just with turkey and stuffing instead of police budgets.

The only difference is she got caught doing it in under a week instead of over several years.

Wisconsin's primary lands Tuesday, and Hong is still the heavy favorite to face Republican Rep. Tom Tiffany in November.

Every voter walking into that booth should know exactly who they are nominating.

Not a chef who loves Thanksgiving.

A socialist who spent six years mocking the holiday and only found her love for it once the polling started.
