Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier issued a formal investigative subpoena to Anthony Fauci.
The demand covers every award, grant, book deal, and board seat Fauci pursued since January 2020.
Fauci has until August 31 to hand over the documents.
Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill and West Virginia Attorney General JB McCuskey joined the effort.
Uthmeier said the probe could implicate Florida's deceptive trade practice, fraud, and public nuisance laws.
"Evidence has come to light that he was trying to personally profit," Uthmeier said.
He said Fauci pursued book deals and connections to wealthy donors entirely outside his government duties.

The Self-described $900,000 Award Buried Inside Fauci's Own Diary
The trigger for the subpoena sits inside Fauci's own handwriting.
Senator Rand Paul released more than 1,100 pages of Fauci's personal diary.
Investigators zeroed in on one entry describing a $900,000 award from Tel Aviv University's Dan David Prize.
The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases also steered a 2022 research grant to the University of Florida's Scripps Biomedical program while Fauci still ran the agency.
"Fauci's diary focused more on self-promotion than the legitimate safety concerns," Uthmeier told the Tampa Free Press.
The same diary shows Fauci privately took credit for lockdowns he publicly denied ordering for years.
He told ABC News in 2022 he had "nothing to do" with school closures nationwide.
Senator Paul says the entries tell a far different story than the one Fauci sold the country.
"What Fauci wrote privately and what he told the country are two different stories," Paul wrote.
The Fifth Amendment Cannot Save Him From State Court
He invoked the Fifth Amendment 111 times during his Senate Homeland Security Committee hearing in July.
Republicans on the panel argue his pardon from Joe Biden erased any need to hide behind the Fifth Amendment at all.
Louisiana's Murrill says the public deserves real answers about the pandemic's origins and the government's response.
West Virginia's McCuskey says Americans deserve to know whether they were misled or manipulated.
Fauci's attorney did not respond to a request for comment on the new subpoena.
Fauci's own opening statement at the hearing acknowledged Rand Paul has repeatedly called for his arrest.
He said nothing else for three hours.
