Democrats already handed New York City to Mayor Zohran Mamdani, a self-described socialist, this year.
This weekend a Twitch streamer decided that wasn't nearly radical enough.
He walked onstage wearing Mao Zedong's uniform to make that point.
Sitting Congressman Shared The Stage With Piker's Communist Cosplay
Hasan Piker is not some random voice screaming into the internet void.
He commands roughly 10 million followers across the internet.
On July 18, he took the podium at the College Democrats of America summer convention in Washington, D.C.
He wore a suit styled after Mao Zedong, the communist dictator whose policies historians blame for tens of millions of deaths.
Democrat Congressman Jamie Raskin addressed the same two-day convention.
So did gun control activist David Hogg.
So did a slate of Democratic Socialists of America-backed candidates running for Congress this fall.
Nobody at that podium bothered to ask him to change clothes.
Piker told the crowd it was time for "no more" to Democrats who compromise, conciliate, and betray the movement.
He said Democrats who fund ICE, fund Israel, and work with "fascists" were no longer welcome in his coalition.
The crowd cheered.

Former Los Angeles mayoral candidate Spencer Pratt summed up the reaction for millions of stunned onlookers.
"They're communists. This was always communism," Pratt wrote.
Gun control activist Shannon Watts, no conservative herself, couldn't help but mock the spectacle either.
"Our party having a normal one," Watts wrote alongside video of the speech.
GOP strategist Matt Whitlock made a point that cut even deeper than the jokes.
He noted that the costume was almost too on the nose to be satire.
Nobody at the convention seemed to find that ironic.
More than five hundred student organizers packed into that hall to watch it happen.
Piker Has Praised Mao Before And Wants The GOP Erased Entirely
This was not a wardrobe accident.
Piker has said before that he refuses to criticize Mao Zedong, a man he's called one of the greatest leaders the world has ever seen.
He has also drawn fire in the past for saying America "deserved" the 9/11 attacks.
None of that reads like a costume choice made in isolation.
Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman has been sounding the alarm on his own party for months, and this speech proves he was right to.
"The Democratic Party is becoming an orgy of socialism," Fetterman said after a wave of DSA-backed primary wins in New York.
Piker's Mao suit did not appear out of nowhere.
It landed on the same weekend Democrats are supposed to be selling voters on a united front heading into November.
The Democratic Civil War Is Now Impossible To Hide
Insiders have quietly called this the split between the Fetterman wing and the AOC-Mamdani wing for months.
Piker just dragged that fight into the daylight and put it in a costume.
The Fetterman wing is shrinking fast, and even Fetterman himself keeps hinting he might walk out the door.
The AOC-Mamdani wing just got the biggest microphone in Democratic politics and used it to praise a communist dictator on camera.
Even a College Democrats of America executive board member pushed back, arguing that giving Piker that stage sends exactly the wrong message heading into the midterms.
Every swing-state Democrat now running for reelection has to answer for it.
Chuck Schumer and Hakeem Jeffries spent this entire year insisting their party is the moderate, sensible alternative to Trump.
Piker just told his own party's future organizers that cooperation itself is the enemy.
Every union worker in Pennsylvania and Ohio who Democrats need in November just watched a man in Mao's uniform call for burning down cooperation with anyone who disagrees.
Try selling that message in a union hall in Erie or Youngstown.
It plays a lot better in a struggle session.
Republicans do not need to lift a finger on this one.
Piker, Raskin, and a party too afraid of its own base to say no just handed them the tape.
That silence is the real story, and voters in November will remember it.
