A perfect storm hits Willie Nelson and his Outlaw Music Festival
At 92 years old, Willie Nelson shows no signs of slowing down his touring schedule.
The Texas native has been crisscrossing the country with his Outlaw Music Festival’s 10th Anniversary Concert tour alongside his family band.
But Mother Nature had other plans for the country music icon.
Nelson was forced to cancel his Tuesday show in El Reno, Oklahoma after what his team called an "extreme weather event" wreaked havoc on the festival’s equipment.
The trouble started after Nelson’s Sunday night performance in Ridgedale, Missouri when a fierce storm rolled through the venue.
The weather turned nasty fast during Sunday’s show, producing heavy rains and powerful winds that forced organizers to evacuate the entire crowd for safety.
Bob Dylan, the Mavericks, and Tami Neilson were supposed to join Nelson on the bill for Tuesday’s Oklahoma concert.
Opening act Tami Neilson revealed in an Instagram Stories post that she managed to complete her set that night, but both Dylan and Nelson’s performances had to be scrapped as the evacuations began.¹
The storm didn’t just ruin the evening’s entertainment.
Nelson’s team announced that "much of the Outlaw Music Festival’s equipment and artists’ instruments were damaged and waterlogged" and couldn’t be assessed in time for the Oklahoma show.
The damage was so extensive that festival organizers couldn’t determine what gear was salvageable in time for the Oklahoma show.
Safety concerns forced them to halt production entirely while they figured out how to recover and replace the destroyed equipment.
Fans worried about Willie’s beloved guitar
When news of the cancellation broke, Willie Nelson fans immediately had one burning question on their minds.

Trigger isn’t just any guitar – it’s Nelson’s famous Martin N-20 classical acoustic that he’s played for over 50 years.
The instrument is so battered and worn from decades of use that it’s got a massive hole worn through the top from Nelson’s picking style.

"Trigger is marked SAFE from the damage," the country legend commented on his own social media post.
The show must go on
The cancellation represents a rare interruption for Nelson, who maintains one of the most grueling tour schedules in country music despite his advanced age.
Fans who purchased tickets for the Oklahoma show will receive full refunds through their original point of purchase.
The good news is that the Outlaw Music Festival’s 10th Anniversary Tour isn’t over.
Nelson and his crew plan to resume the tour on July 4th in Austin, Texas – a fitting location for the Texas-born musician to get back on stage.
The Independence Day show will give the festival team several days to assess the storm damage and replace whatever equipment needs to be fixed or replaced.
For a performer who’s weathered every storm the music industry has thrown at him over six decades, a little Missouri weather isn’t going to keep Willie Nelson down for long.
The 92-year-old legend has proven time and again that he’s tough as nails.
