Trump renamed Lake Ontario Lake America last month as his trade war with Canada raged.
Michigan Congresswoman Debbie Dingell answered by drafting a bill to erase his executive order for good.
Trump fired back this week by reminding her exactly what he did for her family back in 2019.
Trump Goes Back to the Name Game – Signs the Order That . . . Well Nevermind
On August 27, Trump signed an executive order renaming Lake Ontario to "Lake America."
The order came as his administration slapped 50 percent tariffs on Canadian goods and trade talks with Ottawa fell apart.
Federal agencies now have to use the new name on maps and in official documents.
Trump's team framed it as reclaiming American geography during a fight with a neighbor that has spent years taking advantage of us on trade.
Debbie Dingell was not having it.
The Michigan Democrat called the order "idiotic" and said the Great Lakes are "a shared treasure that generations of Americans and Canadians have worked together to protect."
She lined up Reps. Tim Kennedy and Joe Morelle as co-sponsors on a bill to gut the order entirely, the "Hands Off Our Great Lakes Act," writing into the text that Trump's renaming has "no force or effect."
She scheduled it for introduction the Monday after the order dropped, moving fast to make sure the White House knew she meant it.

Trump Reminds Dingell What He Did for Her Husband and Coins Debbie Dingbat
Trump does not let disloyalty slide, and he decided Dingell owed him one.
He took to Truth Social on September 6 and reminded the country what he did back in February 2019, when her husband, John Dingell, the longest serving member of Congress in American history, died.
Trump brought U.S. flags to half-staff himself and gave the late congressman what he called "the Royal Sendoff, MAXED OUT."
Then came the line that turned a policy dispute into a headline.
"His wife, Debbie Dingbat, called me and thanked me profusely, while crying uncontrollably," Trump wrote.
He went further and branded her a "Third Rate Loser" for turning around and fighting his Great Lakes order after that phone call.
Trump's argument is simple: he did right by her family when it mattered, and she repaid him by trying to torch his executive order in front of cameras.
Loyalty runs one way with people like this, and Trump made sure his millions of Truth Social followers know it.
Dingell has not backed off the legislation.
She is pushing forward with the Great Lakes bill regardless of the nickname now attached to her name.
Why This Fight Is Bigger Than One Lake
This was never really about a name on a map.
It is about whether Canada gets to keep coasting on trade terms that gutted American manufacturing for decades while acting insulted when Trump finally pushes back.
Dingell represents a state that has bled auto jobs for a generation, yet she is spending her political capital defending Ottawa's feelings over a lake name instead of backing a president trying to fix the trade imbalance that hurt her own constituents.
But seriously, the re-naming stuff schtick is getting old.
Going back to that well is fine. But for Christ’s sake, let’s deliver some real policy wins for Americans in this term already.
The Same Playbook That Turned Warren Into Pocahontas
Trump has run this exact play before, and it has worked every single time.
Elizabeth Warren became "Pocahontas" over a heritage claim and never fully escaped it.
Chuck Schumer became "Cryin' Chuck" after a single press conference moment, and the tape outlived the news cycle.
Joe Biden became "Sleepy Joe" years before the debate stage finally proved the nickname right.
The formula never changes: Trump finds a real moment, distills it into three words, and lets Democrats spend years trying to shake it off in interviews they never should have agreed to do.
"Debbie Dingbat" already has the two things every sticky Trump nickname needs, a real grievance behind it and a mental image nobody forgets.
Dingell can win the vote on her Great Lakes bill in the House and still lose the fight that actually matters, because voters remember nicknames long after they forget the text of any bill.
