Stunning Female Prison Guard Had a Secret Affair With a Killer and a Judge Let Her Walk

A British prison guard traded nude photos and video calls with a convicted killer serving fifteen years.

Then his family started wiring cash straight into her bank account.

The judge sentencing her for it still found someone else entirely to blame.

A Contraband Phone Led Investigators to Their Secret Relationship

Samantha Stowell took a job as a prison officer at HMP Manchester in the United Kingdom, better known as Strangeways, when she was just 19 years old.

Conor Dobson was already inside on a 15-year sentence for killing an elderly woman in a hit-and-run.

Between February and August of 2023, the two of them built a relationship entirely against the rules she was hired to enforce.

They exchanged messages on WhatsApp.

They traded nude photos and videos.

They got on video calls together.

They told each other they were in love.

Dobson's relatives wired £1,200 into Stowell's bank account while all of this was happening.

She spent it on dinners out, jewelry, and personal grooming.

The whole arrangement fell apart when prison staff found the phone Dobson had been using hidden in his cell.

Stowell was fired on the spot.

The Judge Blamed the Prison Instead of the Guard Who Broke the Law

Judge Patrick Field had Stowell in front of him for a serious breach: smuggling a phone to a convicted killer and carrying on a secret relationship with him behind bars.

He handed her a six-month sentence, suspended for two years.

No jail time. Not a single night.

Then came the part that should make every reader's blood boil.

The judge said putting a "19-year-old girl" in a men's prison meant it was no surprise "more sophisticated prisoners should try to exploit her."

Read that again.

A convicted killer ran a manipulation campaign against a prison employee, and the judge's sentencing remarks landed on the prison's hiring department, not on the grown man serving time for killing someone.

Stowell was an adult who made a choice, over and over, for six straight months.

She took the money. She sent the photos. She kept the secret.

The prison did not do any of that for her.

This Kind of Affair Is Becoming Standard Practice Behind Bars

Stowell and Dobson are not an isolated embarrassment for the prison system.

Ministry of Justice figures show staff disciplinary cases for inappropriate relationships with inmates climbed from 11 in 2017 to 17 in 2022, with 63 staff members dismissed over that stretch.

That is a steady climb, not a one-time scandal, and it is happening while prisons already struggle to keep experienced staff on the floor.

Every one of those cases starts the same way this one did: a convicted criminal with time to kill identifies the newest, youngest face on the wing and goes to work on her.

Judge Field all but admitted as much when he pinned blame on the prison for hiring someone so young.

He just stopped short of the obvious next step, which is holding prisons accountable for putting 19-year-olds on violent wings with no real preparation for what career criminals do to earn their trust.

This Is Not the First Time a Guard Got Caught in a Killer's Web

The pattern is not even limited to one country.

A New York jail guard named Nancy Gonzalez had an affair with Ronell Wilson, a man convicted of murdering two NYPD detectives, and became pregnant by him while he sat on death row.

She pleaded guilty and was sentenced to actual prison time for it.

Two different countries, two guards manipulated by convicted killers, two wildly different outcomes.

One went to prison. One walked out with a suspended sentence and a judge's sympathy.

The common thread in both cases is the same: a convicted killer identified the weakest link in the building and worked it for months until it paid off.

The institutions keep hiring guards too young and too green to see it coming, and then keep finding reasons to go easy on the ones who fall for it.

Somebody has to be held responsible when a convicted killer gets a working phone and a girlfriend on the payroll.

This time, a judge decided that somebody would not be the woman who broke the law.
