Ralph Norman bragged on camera about helping Trump block solar and wind subsidies in Trump's tax bill.
Then a green energy group with deep pockets started running ads against him.
That group's fingerprints are all over the campaign trying to save Darline Graham.
Norman Bragged About Killing Solar and Wind Subsidies on Camera
Ralph Norman held out his vote on the One Big Beautiful Bill Act before ultimately backing it.
Darline Graham used the runoff debate to hammer him for it, framing his procedural votes as disloyalty to President Trump.
Norman fired back on X with a video explaining exactly why he held out.
"I'm a businessman, and in business, you DRIVE THE HARDEST BARGAIN!" Norman wrote.
"I held out so we could GET RID OF WASTEFUL SUBSIDIES FOR SOLAR, WIND, and ELECTRIC CARS!" he continued.
"I won't apologize for that!"
The final bill phased out the solar and wind tax credits Norman targeted and tightened eligibility for the electric vehicle credits Democrats built into law under Biden.
Norman was one of the House conservatives who refused to vote yes until leadership agreed to phase out the solar, wind, and electric vehicle credits faster than the original draft.
Norman wants South Carolina voters to see that fight as the whole reason he made leadership sweat before the vote.
The Invest in Tomorrow Coalition Just Wrote a Million Dollar Check
A group called the Invest in Tomorrow Coalition PAC is spending at least a million dollars to stop Ralph Norman.
It already paid $1.4 million to Tusk Strategies, a Democrat-connected consulting shop, to build and run the ad campaign against him.
PAC chair Tom Matzzie was blunt about the goal.
"It's about stopping Norman," Matzzie said, "but it's also about sending a message to other members of Congress that if they try to hurt the industry, we're going to fight back."
The ads Tusk Strategies built skip the subsidy fight almost entirely.
They accuse Norman of betraying Trump by endorsing Nikki Haley back in 2024, a message written by Democrat operatives and aimed at MAGA primary voters who have never heard of the Invest in Tomorrow Coalition.
That is not grassroots outrage.
That is a green energy lobby laundering its subsidy fight through a fake loyalty test.
This is not Matzzie's first target.
His operation put real money behind toppling Rep. Andy Ogles in Tennessee's primary this month after Ogles supported cutting the same green energy credits.
Now South Carolina is next, and the money is landing right as Darline Graham needs it most.
Why the Same Donors Fighting Norman Keep Backing Darline Graham
Darline Graham wants voters to believe Ralph Norman's Big Beautiful Bill fight makes him disloyal to Trump.
The solar lobby wants the exact same thing, for the exact opposite reason.
They are not worried about loyalty to Trump.
They are worried about losing billions in taxpayer-funded subsidies for solar panels, wind turbines, and electric cars that Norman helped strip out of the bill.
When a green energy PAC with ties to Democrat operatives spends seven figures to knock out the Republican who cut its subsidies, that tells you who benefits from Graham's attack line.
It is not South Carolina ratepayers.
It is the same industry that has lobbied Washington for years to keep the subsidy spigot open no matter which party controls the Senate.
Norman drove the hard bargain he promised.
The bill he held out for phased out the subsidies, and now the industry that lost that fight is spending real money trying to make sure he pays for it at the ballot box.
We previously reported on Graham’s support for massive data centers and that is almost certainly linked with the solar lobbyists’ support.
It looks like she wants to turn SC into a land of massive data centers and not farms but massive ugly solar “farms” to power the data centers, and all of it will be subsidised by ordinary taxpayers.
