Obama Called the Omar Probe Appalling and Then the Times Exposed What His Deep State FBI Goons Found

Barack Obama went on X to call the Trump investigation of Ilhan Omar appalling.

Eleven days later, The New York Times dug up a federal file from his presidency.

What his investigators found inside that file has Omar's office scrambling to rewrite history.

Obama's FBI and DHS Opened the Omar Marriage Case in 2016

In the summer of 2016, the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security opened an investigation into Omar's 2009 marriage to Ahmed Nur Said Elmi.

Critics have long alleged that Elmi is her brother and that the wedding was an immigration scam.

The paper trail around that marriage was strange from the start.

Omar had already entered a religious marriage in 2002, seven years before she legally married Elmi, and the divorce from Elmi wasn't finalized until 2017.

Six officials with knowledge of the 2016 inquiry talked to the Times, and they say Obama-era investigators did not come up empty.

They found "some evidence" the marriage was fraudulent, according to the Times report.

So why was Omar never charged?

Prosecutors concluded the five-year statute of limitations on the alleged felony had already expired.

The evidence didn't kill the case – the calendar did.

That same summer, Omar was running for the Minnesota House of Representatives.

She won, and by January 2019 she was sworn in as a member of Congress.

Voters never heard a word about the federal file until the Times story broke.

According to a source who spoke to Fox News Digital, a Biden-appointed U.S. Attorney in Minnesota shut the probe down in 2021.

Omar's Office Is Telling a Different Story Than Obama's Investigators

Omar's spokesperson now says the 2016 probe went nowhere because the evidence wasn't there.

The officials who talked to the Times say the opposite.

Her team brushes off the whole matter as a conspiracy theory and payback for her attacks on Trump.

When reporters cornered Omar at the Capitol in December 2025 and asked why critics keep raising the marriage, she had a three-word answer.

"Because they're sick!" Omar snapped before stepping onto an elevator.

The people she called sick, it turns out, included federal agents working for Barack Obama.

Obama never mentioned any of that when he jumped to Omar's defense on October 18.

He wrote that the federal government was being "brought down on a law-abiding elected official" for criticizing Trump.

White House spokeswoman Lauren Bis shot back that Joe Biden was the president who turned the Justice Department into a political weapon, not Trump.

Trump has said the matter belongs to the Justice Department and that he has nothing to do with it.

Omar's Citizenship Case Has No Statute of Limitations

The new federal investigation is a different animal.

On October 12, Homeland Security Investigations agents searched Omar's Washington, D.C., home and seized her passport, her phone, and her computer.

Investigators are examining whether Omar or her late father lied on immigration or citizenship paperwork, including about her age when the family sought legal status.

Border czar Tom Homan saw this coming in December 2025, when he said "there was immigration fraud involved" in the marriage.

Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin has said a family immigration fraud case could ultimately lead to deportation.

The five-year criminal deadline that protected Omar in 2016 doesn't stand in the way of that.

Law professor Jonathan Turley laid it out on Fox News Sunday.

"The civil case does not have a statute of limitations," Turley said.

A civil denaturalization case asks one question – was citizenship obtained through fraud or false statements?

Under Maslenjak v. United States, the government has to prove the lie actually mattered to the citizenship decision, which is a high bar.

The Trump Justice Department made those cases a top priority in 2025.

Obama's FBI Found Evidence Omar's Allies Swore Never Existed

Omar has never been charged with a crime.

But the line her allies have repeated for years – that this was a baseless conspiracy theory – just fell apart.

Federal investigators under a Democrat president took it seriously enough to open a case, and they came back with some evidence to support it.

The Times is not Breitbart.

It is the paper Democrats quote when they want to win an argument.

Obama asked every American to be outraged about the Omar investigation.

They should be.

His administration was investigating Omar's marriage while she was asking Minnesota voters for their trust, and the public learned about it ten years too late.

Trump's investigators don't have to beat a clock this time.

They just have to finish the job Obama's people started.
