NYT Reporter Sits On Bill Maher’s Couch and Says the Quiet Part About Democratic Socialists

Zohran Mamdani proved a democratic socialist could win a major American election outright.

Now the party's own paper of record is admitting what that movement actually wants next.

A New York Times reporter just said the words Democrats hoped nobody would ever say on television.

Jeremy Peters Tells Bill Maher What the DSA Really Wants

Jeremy Peters covers politics for The New York Times.

He sat down with Bill Maher on Real Time this month to talk about the growing socialist wing inside the Democratic Party.

Maher pushed him on what groups like the DSA actually believe.

Peters didn't dodge it.

He told Maher the DSA's goal isn't just winning primaries or pulling Democrats further left.

According to Peters, the DSA wants to "take out the entire constitutional system."

Maher's response was blunt.

He said what the DSA is really describing is communism.

Nobody on that stage disputed him.

This Is Not a New Confession From the Socialist Left

Conservatives who have been paying attention already knew this.

Just days before Peters went on Maher's show, a member of the DSA's own national steering committee said the quiet part out loud.

Cliff Connolly told an audience that the DSA's "hatred" of the United States Constitution is central to the group's mission, calling the document an obstacle standing between socialists and their revolution.

That is not a paraphrase from a hostile source.

That is a sitting DSA leader describing his own organization's view of the founding document in his own words.

Put Connolly's admission next to Peters' confession to Maher and you get the same story told twice in one week.

The people running the DSA do not see the Constitution as something to reform.

They see it as the wall standing between them and power, and they have said so themselves.

The DSA Already Runs Inside the Democratic Party Machine

Democratic socialists are not some isolated protest movement operating outside the Democratic Party.

They are inside it, running candidates, winning primaries, and shaping the party's platform from within.

Zohran Mamdani ran and won as an open democratic socialist.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez built her entire career as a DSA-aligned member of Congress.

The DSA's own strategy has been to capture the Democratic Party's machinery rather than build a third party, and that strategy is working exactly as designed.

Peters didn't stop at the constitutional system line either.

In a separate exchange, Peters admitted that DSA candidates struggle to explain how their positions differ from communism when pressed directly on the question.

A reporter for The New York Times, of all outlets, could not find Democratic socialist candidates who could answer that basic question.

Socialists Ran on Hiding the Ball and Got Caught Anyway

Here's what fires me up about this story.

For years Democrats and their friends in the media told you the "democratic socialist" label was harmless, just Bernie Sanders wanting free college and universal healthcare.

Now their own steering committee members and their own favorite New York Times reporters are telling you, on camera, that the goal is dismantling the constitutional system itself.

This isn't a Fox News host making an inference.

This is Jeremy Peters, a New York Times political reporter, sitting across from Bill Maher and saying the words himself.

Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi have pretended for years that the socialist wing of their party is a fringe curiosity they can manage and contain.

Mamdani's win and the DSA's steering committee say otherwise, and now even the paper of record's own reporter is confirming it on television.

Your Democratic Party is not flirting with socialism anymore.

It is being built by people who have told you, in their own words, that the Constitution is the obstacle they intend to remove.
