Matrix Director Calls Harry Potter Fans Complicit in Genocide Over One Word Rowling Never Used

Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson turned on JK Rowling and she still writes the checks that outsell them all.

Now Hollywood found a new way to attack the woman who created a franchise worth billions.

A director behind one of the biggest movies ever made just said something about Harry Potter fans that will make you want to throw your remote.

Lilly Wachowski Tells Variety Your Childhood Movies Fund Genocide

Lilly Wachowski, co-director of The Matrix, sat down with Variety this month to promote her new studio.

The interview did not stay on movies for long.

Wachowski told the outlet flatly that "J.K. Rowling funds trans genocide, full stop."

She kept going.

"So, if you support Harry Potter, you're supporting trans genocide," Wachowski said.

She told readers their nostalgia for Harry Potter books and movies makes them personally responsible for what she called her eradication.

"Your enjoyment of these shows…is supporting my eradication," Wachowski said, according to Variety.

Wachowski did not stop at Rowling.

She also revived the long-discredited claim that Elon Musk threw "a full-blown Sieg Heil on a national stage" at President Trump's 2025 inauguration, a gesture the Anti-Defamation League already reviewed and dismissed as an awkward wave, not a salute.

Wachowski called Musk a "literal" Nazi outright.

Rowling didn't get that exact label. She got something else entirely: blamed for a genocide, according to Wachowski, for writing books people still read.

Rowling's Camp Fires Back With Facts Instead of Insults

Rowling did not respond personally.

Her longtime representative Neil Blair did it for her.

Blair called the genocide accusation "seriously defamatory."

He said it was "clearly fabricated and not based on any evidence."

Blair went further and named the tactic for what it is.

"Freedom of speech is a principle we should all cherish," Blair said.

He added that "outrageously invoking the Nazis and the genocide that they committed" should never be presented as fact when the claim is fabricated.

Blair clarified what Rowling's Women's Fund actually does.

The fund backs legal action to preserve existing protections for women under UK equality law.

It does not fund any campaign to restrict transgender people, according to Blair.

Rowling has heard this exact playbook before, just with different faces.

Radcliffe and Emma Watson both publicly broke with Rowling over her sex-based views years ago, and Rowling said flatly she would not forgive either of them.

She told them to "save their apologies."

Wachowski's "literal Nazi" line follows a familiar pattern political scientists call the Hitler card, the move of comparing anyone you disagree with to the Third Reich rather than debating the actual argument.

It works because it shuts down conversation instantly.

Nobody wants to be seen defending a "Nazi," so the label does the arguing for you.

Rowling built a career on defending the idea that biological sex is real and that women deserve single-sex spaces.

Wachowski just told millions of Harry Potter fans that watching those movies makes them accomplices to genocide for holding that same, mainstream position.

Christopher Nolan Gets Praised While Rowling Gets Blamed for Genocide

Wachowski used the same interview to draw a contrast for readers.

She praised director Christopher Nolan for casting transgender actor Elliot Page in his upcoming film The Odyssey.

"That right there is the definition of allyship," Wachowski said of the casting decision.

So Nolan gets called an ally for one casting choice.

Rowling gets blamed for genocide for saying women deserve sex-based protections under British law.

That's the going rate in Hollywood now: praise for one casting decision, a genocide accusation for the woman who wrote the books half of Hollywood grew up on.

Harry Potter remains one of the best-selling book and film franchises in history, and Rowling has never walked back her position despite years of coordinated industry pressure.

No director's press tour insult is taking any of that away from her.
