And Jonathan Capehart just blindsided Donald Trump with one brutal attack that left Catholics shell-shocked.

But the elites at PBS couldn’t help themselves as they instantly began plotting how to weaponize the papacy against the Trump administration.
During Friday’s airing of PBS NewsHour, Washington Post associate editor Jonathan Capehart turned red with rage as he delivered what might be the most disrespectful take imaginable.
“How could I not look at this as an incredible rebuke to the American president?” Capehart declared, barely containing his excitement at the thought of using the Pope against Trump.
The Washington Post editor didn’t stop there, practically foaming at the mouth as he positioned himself as some kind of theological authority.
“Here you have an American pope who is as a leader in the world going to go toe to toe with the American president who, from everything we have seen, is the complete opposite of the Holy Father,” Capehart continued.
Just when you thought he couldn’t sink any lower, Capehart then had the audacity to lecture Catholic Trump supporters about their own faith.
“And so the question then becomes, what do American Catholics do when they have an American pope who speaks the teachings of Jesus Christ, all the things that David was talking about, and yet they have been supporting a man who is antithetical to all of those things?” Capehart asked with a smug grin.

PBS host Geoff Bennett teed up this vicious attack by claiming the new Pope’s positions on “protecting immigrants, reducing gun violence, combating climate change” are “certainly in line with the Gospel, maybe not in line with right-wing politics.”
New York Times columnist David Brooks couldn’t resist piling on, using his time to further the outrageous claim that supporting Trump somehow contradicts Catholic faith.
All hell broke loose on social media as Catholics across America expressed their outrage at having their faith hijacked for cheap political points.
This shameless attempt to drive a wedge between Catholics and President Trump follows a familiar pattern where the mainstream media – which normally mocks people of faith – suddenly pretends to care deeply about religious teaching.
What these coastal elites fail to understand is that millions of Catholic Americans support President Trump precisely because his policies protect religious liberty from the radical left’s constant attacks.
President Trump has been America’s strongest defender of religious freedom, standing firm against abortion and defending faith communities from government overreach – actions that speak far louder than the hollow virtue signaling of left-wing journalists.
