JD Vance stood in Michigan and called Abdul El-Sayed "very, very evil."
Stephanie Ruhle went on MSNBC and said the attack would actually help him win.
What Ruhle left out of that segment is the reason Vance said it in the first place.
Ruhle Tells Viewers the Insult Is a Gift
Vance delivered the line at a Monday rally for Michigan Republicans, telling the crowd there is "something about Abdul El-Sayed that is very, very evil and on the rise in the United States of America today."
Ruhle's response, delivered straight to her MSNBC audience, was that Vance had just handed El-Sayed a campaign ad.
"Every time he says he's evil, El-Sayed is just going to pump out an ad saying, yes, evil for trying to get affordable health care, clean water and good schools," Ruhle said.

Notice what she did there.
She rewrote Vance's actual words into a fight over health care and clean water.
Vance never said any of that.
He was talking about Hasan Piker.
What Ruhle Left Out of Her Segment
Piker is the Twitch streamer who called Mao Zedong "one of the great leaders" and said America deserved 9/11.
Twitch suspended him in 2025 after he told viewers to kill Republican Senator Rick Scott.
El-Sayed campaigned with him anyway.
Then a gunman attacked Temple Israel in Michigan this March, and El-Sayed stood next to Piker at a press conference and explained the attack away as "hurt people do hurt people."
El-Sayed still would not disavow Piker.
Vance's "evil" line was aimed at that record, not at El-Sayed's health care platform.
She also invoked an unnamed Fox News host as supposedly sympathetic to El-Sayed without telling her audience it was Jesse Watters, who has called El-Sayed "a little bit of a lunatic" and predicted he would be "a terrible senator."
Leave that detail out and Ruhle gets to pretend even Fox is rooting for the Democrat.
Put it back in and the whole frame collapses.
Democrats Cannot Get El-Sayed to Answer the Piker Question
CNN gave El-Sayed a chance to renounce Piker directly and he dodged, saying he focuses on voters rather than his campaign surrogates.
Debbie Dingell has started telling reporters to stop asking about Piker altogether.
A candidate with nothing to hide answers the question.
El-Sayed and Dingell are running out the clock until November instead.
MSNBC's other coverage has followed Ruhle's lead, describing Piker in soft, generic terms rather than as the streamer Twitch banned for telling viewers to kill a sitting senator.
Other outlets have treated Republicans' questions about Piker as harassment rather than legitimate scrutiny of a Senate candidate's chosen surrogate.
That is not reporting.
That is running interference for a Senate candidate who cannot answer a yes or no question about a self-described communist who cheered a mass murder.
Why the Networks Keep Doing This
This is the same play Chuck Todd and his peers ran for years, treating every Republican attack on a flawed Democrat as proof the Republican is losing and the Democrat is winning.
It worked on Bernie Sanders, it worked on Hillary Clinton, and now MSNBC is trying to run it on a Michigan Senate nominee who can't shake a Twitch streamer.
The trick only works if the audience never hears the actual quote.
Tie the word "evil" to a 9/11 sympathizer and Vance's line stops sounding like a gaffe.
It sounds like a warning.
Michigan voters are going to hear about Piker whether MSNBC tells them or not, and the more Dingell and El-Sayed refuse to answer, the bigger this gets between now and November.
