The Biden administration is fumbling the ball left and right merely 50 days in.
Joe Biden’s immigration policy has been particularly disastrous.
And Biden’s Press Secretary melted down when she had to answer one question on immigration.
White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki is the sacrificial lamb who has to explain Biden’s nonsensical policy priorities to the press, and immigration might be the most indefensible.
The Biden administration has seen an unprecedented surge in migrants – especially unaccompanied minors – at the southern border.
This was the inevitable consequence of Biden and other Democrats sending out a beacon to the world that the border was open for business in the midst of a global pandemic.
Fox News’ Peter Doocy pressed Psaki on the issue, and none of her responses were good.
Doocy asked, “You’ve been telling migrants from right there for a month now, all the way back to February 10 that now is not the time to come, but they are coming in bigger numbers every day. So do you have a messaging problem?”
Doocy is entirely correct.
For some odd reason, Biden believed he could tell people to come to the country and get free healthcare and good-paying jobs and they wouldn’t come.
Psaki smugly sneered, “Well, I would say that in the last administration, we had a morality problem and children were being pulled from the arms of their parents and kids were being sent back on a treacherous journey, and that’s not the approach of this administration.”
This is false.
The Trump administration put children in detention facilities in accordance with the Flores decision from the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, the same facilities used by the Obama administration.
When the Trump administration used the facilities, the corporate press said Trump was putting “kids in cages.”
As soon as Biden took office, the “cages” became “overflow facilities” and the tents became “semi-permanent soft-sided structures.”
Biden also made the harebrained move of undoing Trump’s “remain in Mexico” policy for asylum seekers.
Instead Biden reinstituted catch-and-release, which sends migrants into the interior of the country to await their asylum court dates, and they almost never show up because the claims are rejected over 90% of the time.
Doocy also called out the inanity of releasing migrants into America without taking COVID tests, drawing a contrast to the intractable standards for reopening schools.
Doocy asked if “the Border Patrol unions and the HHS unions [had] been easier to work with than the teachers unions.”
That garnered a mocking chuckle from Psaki, but Doocy fired back, “It’s not funny.”
No, it’s not funny.
Even leftists are beginning to acknowledge the crisis on the southern border manufactured by the Biden administration when it didn’t have to be this way.
