Cher promised to leave America if Trump won and she's still filming here two years later.
Now an 84-year-old rock legend just made the exact same promise everyone before him already broke.
Art Garfunkel says he's finally ready to walk away from America for good, just like every celebrity before him claimed.
Garfunkel Compares Trump to a Foreign Dictator Over Venezuela
The Simon & Garfunkel legend told The Guardian he is "not aboard" with where the country is headed.
"I'm thinking of leaving the country, frankly," Garfunkel said.
He didn't stop at vague dissatisfaction.
Garfunkel compared Trump's Venezuela policy to a hostile takeover, asking, "When Donald Trump took over Venezuela, are those the new rules? Just take over a country and run it? It's shocking."
He threw in rising sea levels and global starvation for good measure.
Then he caught himself and added the line every leftist celebrity eventually reaches for: "But Trump won't last forever. So we've got to hope."
Translation: he's not actually going anywhere.
Garfunkel built his career on a song called "The Sound of Silence," and the joke writes itself.
An 84-year-old man threatening to relocate over a president's foreign policy is not a bold political stand.
It's a bit he's seen other celebrities perform for a decade.
Every Celebrity Before Him Made the Same Promise and Stayed
Sharon Stone floated a house in Italy in 2024 and never left Los Angeles.
Bryan Cranston vowed he'd "definitely move" if Trump won and stayed put through two terms.
Samuel L. Jackson swore he'd move to South Africa if Trump won back in 2015, then admitted after the win he wasn't going anywhere.
Miley Cyrus posted that she was moving if Trump became president, then deleted it and walked the whole thing back a year later.
Bruce Springsteen told Australian reporters he'd "see you on the next plane" if Trump got re-elected, then kept touring American arenas.
Barbra Streisand told Stephen Colbert she "can't live in this country" under Trump and floated England, Canada, or Australia.
She's still in Malibu.
Cher told The Guardian in 2023 that she'd really leave this time if Trump won again.
She didn't.
Not one of these A-listers packed a bag.
Garfunkel isn't breaking a pattern, he's completing it.
The Pattern That Never Changes and Never Costs Them Anything
This is Trump Derangement Syndrome in its purest, laziest form.
A celebrity gets a microphone, invokes Trump's name, promises an exit, and collects headlines for a news cycle.
Nobody checks the passport.
Nobody books the flight.
The threat isn't a policy position, it's a personal brand exercise, and Garfunkel just proved the brand still sells years after Sharon Stone tried the same routine.
What makes it worse is the audience these stars think they're speaking for.
Millions of Americans can't afford to leave their zip code, let alone the country, and here's an 84-year-old millionaire treating national exile like a mood he's trying on.
Trump didn't take over Venezuela, and Garfunkel knows a metaphor when he reaches for one, he just picked a dishonest one to sound urgent.
The real story isn't that Garfunkel wants to leave.
It's that he, like every celebrity before him, will still be cashing royalty checks in this country long after Trump's term ends.
Watch for Garfunkel to still be booking concerts in America next spring, right where he's always lived.
