Revolver, the go-to source for metal and hard rock since 2000, got hit.

Goldmine, the vinyl collector bible that has covered classic rock, Motown, and the golden age of the record store since 1974, got hit too.

That is more than 140 combined years of music history reporting, cut down inside a single announcement.

The Excuse Is Search Engines, the Reality Is Control

Executives are blaming falling referral traffic, artificial intelligence search overviews, and a collapsing ad market.

Those pressures are real for every media outlet in America right now.

But BrooklynVegan, Alt Press, Revolver, and Goldmine were not just any outlets.

They were among the last independent-minded voices willing to cover artists and stories the corporate ticket machine did not always love.

Now their editorial future belongs to the very company that machine answers to.

A Convicted Monopoly Now Controls Its Own Coverage

This is not the first time a media giant swallowed independent voices and called it modernization.

Vice Media, MTV News, and Pitchfork all went through the same corporate meat grinder in recent years, and every single time the excuse was the algorithm, never the ownership.

Here is what fires so many up about this one specifically.

A jury just told Live Nation, under oath, that it broke federal antitrust law running the concert business.

Days later, that same company's media division fires the reporters who might have covered the fallout.
